What to Expect

  • 1 weekly group lesson
  • Use of simplified rock instruments to introduce kids to music

Rookies is a music program designed for children (typically 6 to 7-year-olds) with no previous musical experience. As with all our music programs, Rookies adheres to the patented School of Rock Method. Our Method's core philosophy is that performance-based music education is the best way for students to gain musical proficiency. Rookies students have one weekly group music lesson where they learn music fundamentals like chords, rhythm and song structure. Kids get to learn and experiment with multiple instruments so they are then able to decide which one they ultimately want to continue pursuing in Rock 101. Now available online.

TAKE MUSIC LESSONS ONLINE AND IN-SCHOOL

At School of Rock, the health and safety of our students is our top priority. Students can participate in our Rookies music program through interactive online lessons or in-school, socially distanced classes. Students choosing to take the Rookies program online are taught using the same famous, patented curriculum we use in our schools—The School of Rock Method™. Instead of in-person lessons and rehearsals, online students will have weekly 1-on-1 online video lessons with their instructor and weekly online rehearsals with their classmates.

THE PATH TO TAKE THE STAGE

Our programs are designed to inspire kids to learn to play music and get them on stage performing, with the goal of attaining strong musical proficiency. Younger students who are not ready for a more comprehensive program like Rock 101 can start in Rookies. Additionally, students who have completed the Little Wing program will progress into the Rookies music program. No prior musical experience is needed for Rookies. Once your child is ready for private music lessons (typically older than first and second graders), they will graduate into our Rock 101 program.
