Rock 101 music program in Dallas for kids and beginners
Rock 101
Ages 8-13

Rock 101 is one of School of Rock Dallas's top programs for kids and beginners. Students have one weekly group rehearsal where they learn to play classic rock songs that have been simplified for beginner musicians. Additionally, Rock 101 students in Dallas have a weekly private music lesson with an instructor who helps them learn the concepts and skills behind their performance songs.

The Path to Take the Stage

Our music programs for kids in Dallas are designed to get students on stage performing, with the goal of building strong musical proficiency. Younger students at School of Rock Dallas who have participated in the Rookies program can move to our Rock 101 music program once they’re ready. Additionally, students (typically ages 8 to 13-years-old) can begin Rock 101 without any prior experience. The goal of this rock program is to quickly develop a basic competence on students’ chosen instruments before moving on to our famous Performance Program.

The Performance Program at School of Rock Dallas is our hallmark music program, where tens of thousands of students enroll each year. It consists of a weekly group rehearsal where kids and teens learn by playing rock music's most iconic songs with a band composed of their peers. Students are assigned songs and parts that are tailored to them based on their age, experience and ability to learn new skills and concepts. Students then work through their parts in weekly private music lessons, refining the skills and concepts that those songs introduce. The goal of this curriculum is to prepare kids and teens for live performances. Every few months, School of Rock Dallas Performance Program students take the stage and play at local Dallas music venues in front of a live audience.

The Path to Take the Stage

School of Rock Dallas's music programs for kids and teens are designed to inspire by getting students on stage and performing. All of our other music education programs focus on readying students for our famous Performance Program. This is where students develop incredible musical skills. Performance Program students have often gone through our Rock 101 program first or have some previous basic music experience. These young musicians will have custom development plans outlined by their instructors with key concepts reinforced during private lessons and group rehearsals, all with the goal of performing live at a Dallas music venue.

Rookies music program for children in Dallas
Rookies
Ages 6-7

At School of Rock Dallas, our music program for children with no previous musical experience (typically ages 6 to 7-years-old) is called Rookies. Rookies students have one weekly group music lesson where they learn fundamentals like chords, rhythm and song structure. Kids get to learn and experiment with multiple instruments so they can later decide which one they ultimately want to continue pursuing in Rock 101.

The Path to Take the Stage

All of our music programs are designed to inspire students to learn and develop a strong musical proficiency. At School of Rock Dallas, younger students who are not ready for a more comprehensive program like Rock 101 can start in Rookies. Additionally, students who have completed the Little Wing program will progress into the Rookies music program. No prior musical experience is needed for Rookies. Once your child is ready for private music lessons (typically older than first or second graders), they will graduate into our Rock 101 program.

Songwriting
Age 12 and over

Our Songwriting program for kids and teens teaches the fundamentals of songwriting, arrangement and music theory, and helps students compose original works.  At School of Rock Dallas, songwriting students receive one weekly private lesson where they learn concepts, technique and theory on an instrument of their choice. These principles are then applied in a weekly group lesson where students work together on songwriting exercises and lyrical workshops.  Every few months, Songwriting students take the stage to perform or band together to record their original songs.

The Path to Take the Stage

Our Songwriting program for kids and teens in Dallas is designed to create musical proficiency through the creation of original music. Students at School of Rock Dallas who have completed our Rock 101 program can move to our Songwriting program once they’re ready. Additionally, new students who have prior experience with and basic knowledge of an instrument can also begin Songwriting. The program culminates with a live showcase where students perform their original compositions in bands at a local music venue. Students taking the Songwriting Program online will remotely record their original songs to produce a demo of the class's music.

At School of Rock Dallas, our students can take online, one-on-one music instruction from the comfort of their homes. We call this program School of Rock Remote. This online music program contains weekly one-on-one instruction conducted by our expert School of Rock instructors in a safe virtual lesson room.
 
Students will receive their training using our proprietary education program, The School of Rock Method™, which couples live video lessons with our proprietary Method App™, SongFirst Approach™ and Method Books™.

Adult Program
Ages 18+

School of Rock Dallas's Adult Program is for students over 18 years old who are looking to either improve their musical proficiency or pick up an instrument with no prior musical experience. As with most School of Rock music programs, the Adult Program uses a performance-based music education approach. This means the curriculum focuses on learning music concepts and applying them in a live performance setting. Our Adult Music Program includes one weekly private music lesson and a weekly group rehearsal. Every student at School of Rock Dallas is placed in a band of fellow adults and then assigned specific songs as a way of learning key music concepts and skills. Adult students then take the stage to play at a live show in Dallas.

All of our music programs are designed to inspire by getting students on stage and performing, with the goal of building strong musical proficiency along the way. The School of Rock Dallas Adult Program is open to all experience levels and each student will follow a customized learning plan developed by their instructor. Adult students will work together during rehearsal to prepare for a live performance at a real rock venue in Dallas.

The School of Rock Dallas House Band music program gives students under 18 the opportunity to join a gigging band composed of fellow musicians from their school. These students perform additional live shows throughout the year. All students in the Performance Program have the opportunity to audition for a spot in School of Rock Dallas's House Band. Once selected, House Band members become leaders in their School of Rock community and perform live shows at TX rock venues throughout the year.

The Path to Take the Stage

Performance is the core of School of Rock's educational approach. Therefore, we create additional opportunities for students to perform on stages throughout Dallas and the rest of TX. The House Band music program allows each school's most talented students the opportunity to join a band and play routinely in front of live audiences. Once a member, students will gain real music experience associated with gigging musicians and will become leaders and mentors inside the School of Rock community.

Age 17 and Under

The School of Rock AllStars Tour takes the very best students from around the world and sends them on a nationwide summer tour across the United States. Less than 1% of School of Rock students are selected each year to represent School of Rock as an AllStar. All Performance Program students are eligible to audition for this prestigious program. The intensive audition process starts off with video submissions followed by live auditions. Once selected, AllStar students will have an authentic touring experience including traveling on a tour bus, doing tour publicity and starring in nightly performances at famous venues and festivals during a two-week tour.

The Path to Take the Stage

Becoming an AllStar is the highest level of achievement for a School of Rock student. They play on legendary stages large and small, including The Knitting Factory, Red Rocks Amphitheatre, The Rock & Roll Hall of Fame, The Troubadour and Lollapalooza. AllStar students often go on to have accomplished careers in the music industry. Former AllStars have gone on to become touring artists, star in Broadway musicals, get signed to record deals, become finalists on talent competitions like "The Voice" and "American Idol" and have other notable roles in the music industry.

At School of Rock Dallas, we offer beginner guitar lessons for kids. Our expert guitar instructors guide your child from start to finish with private instruction and weekly group band rehearsals. School of Rock Dallas offers beginner singing lessons for kids. Our unique, performance-based approach develops students' musical proficiency by preparing them to perform live. At School of Rock Dallas, our vocal coaches are practicing musicians who integrate key music fundamentals—breathing, posture and more—into a curriculum based on performing with a band. Each week, beginner singing students participate in a private singing lesson and a band rehearsal.

Beginner Singing Lessons for Adults

School of Rock Dallas teaches adults how to sing in our innovative Adult Program. Students develop vocal skills at a challenging pace designed to help you see results with every singing lesson. Adult vocalists learn how to keep tempo, stay on-key and master advanced vocal techniques for a powerful and healthy voice. Beginner Keyboard Lessons for Kids

At School of Rock we teach differently than other music schools in Dallas. Our curriculum is performance-based, meaning that we prepare students to perform. Our piano lessons for beginners combine weekly private instruction with weekly band rehearsals. At School of Rock Dallas, our beginner keyboard lessons for kids take key concepts and music fundamentals—finger placement, scales, key differentiation and more—and teach them through popular rock songs. This approach inspires and engages students, which results in attaining a high level of musical proficiency. Growing up in Dallas, Tracy's passion for music began as a kid listening to classic rock with her parents on the way to her soccer games. Other hobbies of Tracy's include collecting records and cassette tapes, and frequenting rock shows around the metroplex.

Tracy recently earned her degree at the University of North Texas in Interdisciplinary Art and Design Studies. She hopes to utilize her creativity and strong work ethic to help support the programs implemented at School of Rock Dallas while uplifting and growing a passionate community.

Music Director
Melissa started her School of Rock journey in 2016 teaching vocals, keys, bass, and guitar. During her time with School of Rock, she has been an instructor, show director, Little Wing and Rookies teacher, and Music Director. After training in classical voice for over 18 years, she fell in love with rock music and pursued a career as a vocal instructor at School of Rock Plano. She first became interested in rock music when she was around six and heard her dad play guitar for the first time. After that, all she wanted to do was play music.

Melissa studied voice throughout grade school and continued throughout college. She pursued a Music Education degree while attending classes at Collin College and TWU. She started teaching voice in 2009 in the DFW area to assist high school students with their college scholarship and musical theater auditions. She has taught many different genres of music through the years anywhere from opera to country and loves singing all styles of music.

Music has always been a great passion for Melissa. Teaching gives her a way to pass on that love and passion to children and young adults, and that is the greatest gift one can give in her eyes.

Music is everything to Johnathan. He believes in spreading positivity and finds connecting through sharing his talent for music is a great way to do just that. His favorite band is the Foo Fighters, but don't let that fool you. Johnathan has an expansive wheelhouse and a love for playing/listening to all different kinds of music. He attended School of Rock as a kid and found it very cathartic to learn and create music with some great friends and teachers a few times a week. After learning through the program, Johnathan decided to turn his passion for music into a career and started teaching with Schoo of Rock in 2019.

Noah "Shark"

Noah aka "Shark" is an entertainer and music industry professional with over two decades of experience. Noah has toured the world playing the drums, and performing at international tours and festivals with many of the biggest names in Rock and Metal music. Noah also recently began his journey as a stand-up comedian, performing at the World Famous Comedy Store in Hollywood, among many other legendary comedy establishments.

Noah began his musical journey in 6th grade, joining the school band, and started his first heavy metal band at the age of 15. He went on to become the drum captain of Lampasas High School drumline and a section leader in The Sound and The Fury marching drumline. Noah is also an accomplished multi-instrumentalist and possesses experience performing and teaching guitar, bass, piano, and vocals.

While studying music education at Tarleton State University, Noah produced and hosted a live, 2-hour radio show on KTRL-The Planet called Swimming With Sharks. In 2004, Noah began marketing, booking, and promoting bands under the moniker, Swimming With Sharks Entertainment. In 2010, Noah founded Swimming With Sharks Records and began signing bands from all over the world. In 2016, Noah founded Zombie Shark Records and was appointed as Marketing Director of EMP Label Group, headed up by Dave Ellefson (Megadeth). When it comes to the music business, Noah has done it all. From helping to build brand new School of Rock locations from the ground up to selling musical instruments for Guitar Center in high-end markets like Dallas, Texas and Hollywood, California, to writing for various heavy metal publications and music media sites, to teaching music lessons to students of all ages, and everything in-between.

Noah is most notable for being one of the founding members of The Browning (Earache/Century Media/Spinefarm). He is also the drummer of Motograter (EMP Label Group/Elektra/No Name), formerly fronted by Ivan Moody of Five Finger Death Punch. He is the current drummer for Jeffrey Nothing (Ex-Mushroomhead). Notable past acts include Pinhed and Srlsm. He is also currently drumming for the rock band, JUNK, along with actor Billy Blair, who has appeared in such films as Rob Zombie’s 3 From Hell, Machete, Machete Kills. Alita: Battle Angel, Jonah Hex, Sin City: A Dame To Kill For, and more. Noah also recently joined A Tragedy at Hand and Ninth Sphere.

Originally born in Kinston, NC, Joell moved to Dallas to live with his wife. He has studied music formally since about the 5th grade beginning with drum lessons. At the age of 13, he had his first job teaching drum lessons at the local music store. He began playing drums for his church also prior to taking that job and until moving to Texas he would play as needed.

In middle school, he was introduced to and began his classical music training. He performed with the concert band and began his marching band career in 9th grade. He was a section leader his junior year and captain his senior year in their corp style band. While in high school, he also played with the symphonic band for three years and jazz band for two years.

Joell continued his education at Elizabeth City State University in Elizabeth City, NC. While there, he matriculated through several degree paths within the music department including music education, performance, composition, and sound recording, culminating in a B.A. in General Music.

As a member of the music department, he participated in marching band, concert band, the symphonic wind ensemble, percussion ensemble, jazz band, and ECSU Albemarle Symphony Orchestra. While active in the marching band, he was section leader of the drumline for two years.

Joell loves music, and his greatest desire is to share his love for music and spread the knowledge of music to anyone who desires to learn. Also, he is a lifelong student with a belief that anyone has something that they can teach regardless of their age or experience level. Let's play!

Nick believes music is essential. Like others, Nick started drumming at an early age on pots, pans, buckets—anything! He saw Blue Man Group live and that fueled the fire. He started with a single snare in a grade school band. Santa brought his first full kit when he was 11. He started as a student at School of Rock in 2013 – a summer camp – KISS! He juggled baseball, football, and music until high school when drumming became his focus. He continued in the performance groups at SOR until he aged out….then stayed for the adult band…and started teaching!

Nick plays almost all genres favoring metal, classic rock, and anything that is fast and furious! Drummers that have influenced him are Jay Weinberg (Slipknot), Tommy Lee (Mötley Crüe), Christoph Schneider (Rammstein) and Vinnie Paul (Pantera and HELLYEAH). His favorite bands to listen to are The Pretty Reckless, Sumo Cyco, Motionless in White, and Code Orange.

Tony is a man of many moods and a dynamo of unbridled passion when performing live. For Tony, it's an approach to performing just as much as it's a way of life.

After playing guitar, singing, writing, and experimenting on his own from age 13 to 20, he participated in Richland Community College’s well-respected music program for a few years then spent a couple of more years in the world-renowned University of North Texas Jazz program, taking full advantage of the musical breadth of these institutions. During those years of study, he also relentlessly stretched himself as a writer and performer.

Tony has performed an enormous range of styles in a wide variety of settings covering many categories of Rock, Blues, Jazz, Pop, Reggae, R&B, Folk, Funk, Rap, Salsa, Calypso, Country, experimental music, etc.

Never bound by rules or conventions, Tony’s musical pursuits are always, nevertheless, rooted in classical music theory and the ideals of efficient technique; qualities that are continually at the forefront whether in the practice room or in the classroom.

Tony is always active as a freelancer and solo performer, and never shies away from a musical challenge, savoring each one as he continues to be a fresh and vital performer and educator.

Andrew started playing guitar in 2010 at the age of 12, surrounded by a household that supported and adored music. His parents would play Rolling Stones and Led Zeppelin front to back during car trips and Andrew began his love for rock from there. Since then, I've grown to love and appreciate all kinds of forms of music, using guitar as his vessel to explore the music world. Over the years, he has worked his way through guitar technique and music theory to help create and share music with thousands. I've been in bands such as Telos, Far From Earth, and his main band, Lost in Separation. In 2016, Andrew founded Lost in Separation and has written a full length and a 6 song ep with more releases in store. Additionally, Andrew has a background in the technical side of live music as well as performing, allowing him to approach live music at any angle. In 2020, Andrew graduated from the University of North Texas with a Bachelor or Arts in Psychology, and found his calling here at School of Rock, assisting children and grown musicians alike. He is always looking for new ways to learn as well as new approaches to music, and teaching helps him give back to the world what the world of music gave to him.

Alan is currently in college pursuing an undergraduate degree in Music, with the goal of eventually earning a master's degree to teach at a university. He has played the guitar for about a decade and has experience teaching students from beginner to advanced levels. With expertise in flamenco, classical, rock, metal, jazz, and mariachi, Alan offers a strong foundation in musical theory and is dedicated to making lessons engaging and enjoyable to promote lasting practice habits. Alan has performed in various venues around Dallas and Fort Worth and believes music education should be guided by the purpose of crafting independent musicians capable of performing, evaluating, and creating music.

Singing Teacher
Nancy is a Dallas native and has been actively involved in music since childhood. She started out singing in the children’s choir at her parent’s church and then started flute lessons at the age of 9. After singing for a few years, she started taking voice lessons at the age of 14. As she continued advancing her vocal skills through her lessons and becoming involved in the different adult church choirs featuring various advanced professional singers hired by her church, she went on to get her degree in Music Therapy at Texas Woman’s University in Denton, TX. During that time, she regularly engaged in open mic nights at local clubs with her classmates and friends where she sang an assortment of folk, pop, rock, and jazz songs. After graduating, she continued singing these genres of music as a professional vocalist with professional singing groups in the DFW area such as The Dallas Christmas Carolers and Vocal-Ease.

Drum Teacher
Zack is a drum instructor and assistant show director at School of Rock Dallas. Born into a musical family, he started playing drums at a young age and left high school to pursue recording and performing. Zack has a well-decorated career as a performer and session musician, having recorded on several artists' albums, and music in film and television. Since starting his own studio, Zack enjoys helping produce music for new artists, specializing in pop music.

Bass Guitar Teacher
Alfie learned to play music from his dad and grandfather in the late '70s. He learned the drums first and played for a decade before he discovered the bass and guitar. In high school, he played in an original band and went on the road to play with national acts.

Alfie has played rock, alternative, country, Latino, mariachi, and played with soul, funk, R&B, and groove bands. His passion is to play music, as well as share his experience and knowledge with the younger musicians coming up.

What a great experience!

My daughter only knew a few chords on the guitar and I thought she would quit after a couple weeks. It's been almost a year and she now plays guitar, bass and sings. She absolutely loves School of Rock.
